If these images give you pause, if they stop you for the briefest moment to wonder, or knowingly smile, then I have done my job.
These images intentionally have a painterly feel. This is to bring out the essence of the scene, the “suchness” of the moment. I am drawn to images that reflect life in all its layers: a waterfall, a mountain, a forgotten building. Each are a microcosm of the greater whole. By doing so, the hope is to break down the separation of the photographer and photographed. For after all, we aren’t all that different from that which we show to the world as our vision of art.
When in nature photographing, I experience a feeling of awe, an undeniable rush of adrenaline at the very moment of capture. And when everything aligns and the universe allows me to capture that moment, I enjoy sharing that brief portion of that one second that will never exist ever again.
Raised in Upstate New York and classically trained in photography at RIT, I spent eight years in the Army as a Combat Photographer. I was fortunate enough to be part of the proud 55th Combat Camera here at Ft. Meade. I currently live in Ellicott City and photograph the local area as well as other subjects throughout my trips to my spiritual home of the Adirondack Mountains. My hope is that you enjoy these images and I encourage you to take time from this busy highway of life to pause, for just a moment, to enjoy!
